JUTC resumes operations in Rollington Town

Cecil Thoms, Communication Manager at the JUTC

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has resumed service along the 81 route in Rollington Town, East Kingston.

The company on Thursday pulled its buses from the route after violence broke out in the area.

Residents blocked sections of the road late Thursday afternoon following a shooting.

The JUTC said the situation made it difficult for its buses to traverse the community.

Cecil Thoms, Communication Manager at the JUTC, said the police have indicated that the situation in the area has been normalized.

"We continue to monitor it and we want to ensure that we do not put the lives of our passengers at risk, and therefore, if it escalates then we will withdraw the service if needs be. But at the moment, we have resumed operations," Mr. Thoms explained.
