KPH implements emergency procedures

Additional medical personnel including surgeons had to be deployed to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) yesterday afternoon as the institution grappled with an increase in trauma cases.

This followed an incident in which gunmen sprayed bullets on mourners at a funeral at Kings Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church on Windward Road in Kingston.

Nine persons were shot, two fatally. They were all taken to the KPH.

CEO of  the hospital, Errol Greene, in an interview with RJR News last night gave an update on the situation.“Three persons are undergoing surgery, the others are being treated as a matter of urgency. We immediately  put in our emergency procedures, we opened four additional theatres, we called out additional surgeons, doctors and nurses and we contacted other hospitals to see what assistance could be rendered if any.   Thankfully we were able to manage,” Green said.
