Labour Ministry calls emergency meeting amid NWC dispute

The Ministry of Labour has called an emergency conciliatory meeting on Tuesday in the wake of the threat of industrial action at the National Water Commission (NWC).

It will involve representatives of the water commission and the four unions representing the workers.

On Monday morning, RJR News reported that the NWC had put contingency plans in place amid the threat of industrial action.

The NWC was informed last Friday that normality could not be guaranteed at the entity.

The notice was issued by the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) after the NWC indicated that it was unable to improve the wage offer during a meeting on Thursday.

The workers have complained about the slow pace of negotiations.
