Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit

A decision is to be made whether the case involving the Westmoreland woman seen in a video beating her five year old daughter should be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Westmoreland Police held a meeting on the matter Monday afternoon.

The woman in the video has not been taken into custody.

Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Corporate Communications Unit, said both the Child Development Agency (CDA) and the police are conducting separate investigations into the incident.

She said a final determination on whether to refer the matter to the DPP will be made after investigations are complete.

Counselling is being arranged for the five year girl and another child seen in the video.

The mother has been assigned a lawyer by the Legal Aid Council.

The alleged beating was captured in a six minute video which later went viral on social media.

It was revealed that she reported to the Whithorn Police Station in Westmoreland on Saturday after realising the video was in the public domain.
