The main witness in the Khajeel Mais murder trial has broken his silence amid widespread criticism about his involvement in the case.
In an RJR News exclusive on Wednesday, former taxi operator Wayne Wright said contrary to reports, he did not recant his statement in court last week during the trial of businessman Patrick Powell, who was accused of Khajeel's murder.
It has been a difficult few days for Mr. Wright, who has been blamed in some quarters for the turn of events in the murder trial of businessman Patrick Powell.
Mr. Wright, who drove the ill-fated taxi in which 17-year-old Khajeel was shot and killed, was accused of changing his statement during cross examination by the prosecution last week, but in an RJR News exclusive interview, Mr. Wright insists that he only gave one statement to the police.
He said he was surprised that he was being referred to as the main witness in the murder trial because he had repeatedly told investigators that he did not see who shot at the vehicle.
Mr. Wright also dismissed suggestions he was paid off to change his statement in court.
