An unidentified man died after being struck by a car on Highway 2000 in the vicinity of the Vineyards Toll in Old Harbour, St. Catherine early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred about 3 o'clock.
Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Highway and Traffic Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), said the man, who is believed to be in his twenties, was killed after he attempted to cross the road and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The driver has not been detained as the police continue to investigate the incident.
In the meantime, SSP Allen expressed concern about the number of pedestrians who have been victims of road fatalities. He urged pedestrians to "be far more wise as they use the roadways, especially in crossing the streets."
