Man shot dead during reported gun battle with Hanover police

As the security forces continue their crack down on gang activities in western Jamaica, a man was fatally shot during a reported gun battle with the police in Hanover Tuesday morning.
He has been identified as Nehemiah McLaren, otherwise called Pink Eye, a resident of Lower Rock Spring and Salt Spring, Green Island, in the parish.
It is reported that about 12:15, the cops carried out an operation in Green Island in search of wanted men and illegal guns.
The police went to a house and were reportedly fired on.
The fire was returned and Mr. McLaren was fatally shot.
A 357 magnum revolver with the serial number erased was reportedly taken from the body.
Investigators say Mr. McLaren was facing a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
