Three members of the Cuban National Football team visiting Jamaica for a recent football friendly against the Reggae Boyz have been detained in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a female American tourist.
The incident reportedly occurred at a hotel in St. James where the team was being housed following its arrival last Friday. Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell confirmed that three Cuban footballers are in custody.
Powell says investigators have received a report of sexual assault against an American tourist by three men.
The Cubans are to face an identification parade on Wednesday.
It’s understood that arrangements are being made to secure an attorney for the footballers ahead of a question and answer session.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Chairman of Security for the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Robert Finzi Smith said the other members of the team are scheduled to leave the island on Wednesday.
