An employee of the Mico University College has been charged with stealing nearly $2 million from the institution.

Tafari Smith, 24, was charged earlier this week following an investigation by the Fraud Squad.

He appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday where he was offered bail in the sum of $800,000.

Investigators reported that between November 2016 and last month, Mr. Smith, a clerical worker, prepared fake invoices and pocketed $1.7 million in cash.

The fraud was uncovered last month by Mico University.
