More than 30 Haitians detained after settling illegally in Bahamas

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force says more than thirty Haitians have been detained after settling illegally in the country.

The army said the migrants were living on a cay, north of Ragged Island.

It was reported that the police found the Haitians during an operation in the cay after receiving information about an illegal settlement in the area.

A further search of the cay and surrounding area is being conducted by the army and members of the Ragged Island fishing community.

On January 7, the police apprehended seven foreigners suspected of  being engaged in human smuggling in Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahamas.
