Ricquel Willis, mother of the Victor Dixon High student killed in a crash near the school.

The mother of the 14 year old Victor Dixon High School student who was mowed down while attempting to cross the road to the Manchester-based institution a little more than two weeks ago, is pleading for the authorities to swiftly implement safety measures to protect students.

Amelia Willis was hit by two vehicles at the intersection of May Day Road and Manchester Road on March 10.

Her mother, Ricquel Willis, on Monday led a group of relatives and friends to the scene of the mishap, where she delivered a message for the Government.

"Mr. Holness...if in planning, it is going to take you longer than two months for this roadway to have some kind of semblance of change to reflect the change that our children need, I am going to give you that two months, because sir, it does not take two months for another child to be killed," she directed at the prime minister.

Report not complete

In the meantime, the Road Safety Unit, which conducted an inspection of the area shortly after the incident, has not yet completed its report.

Kenute Hare, Director of the Unit, is hoping to have the report ready by next week.

The inspection was conducted to ascertain the circumstances which resulted in the mishap.

Mr. Hare said a road safety inspection is also to be conducted and the findings will be included in the report.
