Move to collect information about teachers who went on sick-out not new, says Reid

Senator Ruel Reid
Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid has said the Ministry's move to collect information from schools relating to teachers who were absent during the recent sick out is not unprecedented.
The Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) has questioned the intended purpose of the information.
Speaking on RJR's Hotline on Friday afternoon, Senator Ruel Reid insisted that not only did he have a right to the information as the manager of the education system, but the information is needed for proper accounting.
"I've asked for the information so we can have a proper accounting and indeed to do an audit to make sure that the schools were compliant with the policies," he told Hotline host Emily Shields.
The Education Minister said no instruction was given for salary deductions for teachers who went on sick-out.
