MP engages police to prevent spread of Mountain View violence to East Kingston

Phillip Paulwell
Fearing that the violence in Mountain View Avenue might spread to East Kingston, Phillip Paulwell, Member of Parliament for that area, says he will be having dialogue with the police this week.
The Police High Command on Sunday had to deploy reinforcements as a team of cops on patrol in the Oliver Road and Jarrett Lane areas was cornered by gunmen.
Mr. Paulwell says he will be writing to the Police Commissioner to request sustained security presence to prevent a spread of the violence.
The Kingston Eastern police have said a lack of resources is hampering their ability to tackle violence in the division.
Superintendent Victor Hamilton, Commanding Officer for the Kingston Eastern Police, said more cops are needed to deal with the many troubled communities in the division.
Superintendent Hamilton said the police will continue to maintain a presence on Oliver Road and Jarrett Lane until the situation returns to normal.
