NAJ calls emergency meeting to discuss wages

Public sector nurses appear intent on seeking improved salaries and benefits despite an indication from the Government that it cannot accommodate an increase in the wage bill.

The Nurses Association of Jamaica, NAJ, has called its members to an emergency meeting to discuss a heads of agreement for the 2012/2014 contract period.

The meeting which is scheduled for 9:30 Thursday morning will also discuss the reclassification of nurses.

The NAJ earlier this year indicated that it was not in favour of a wage freeze.

It asserted that certain conditions have to be met before it accepts any proposal for its members to forego an adjustment in salaries.
