NEI conducting second cycle of school inspections

The National Education Inspectorate (NEI) is conducting its second cycle of school inspections to assess the impact of interventions by the Education Ministry and its partners.

Some 791 primary institutions and 162 at the secondary level are being assessed.

The first cycle of inspections was carried out between 2010 and 2015.

Bronty Liverpool-Williams, NEI Deputy Chief Inspector, says 45 per cent of schools were rated effective and the remainder ineffective.

The assessment of schools is based on eight indicators, including leadership and management, teaching and learning, as well as students’ safety and security.

Only one per cent of schools were rated as ‘exceptionally high’ for leadership and management in the first cycle evaluation.

Eleven per cent were rated good; 47 per cent satisfactory; 38 per cent unsatisfactory and three per cent needing immediate support.
