New boards named for sports agencies

There has been a shake-up in the leadership of the board of the Institute of Sports. Sports Minister Olivia Grange has also made changes to the board of the Sports Development Foundation, which will have a term of two years.

Newton Amos is the new board chairman of INSPORTS. The make-up of the board has also been reduced by one, down to 13, with immediate past chairman Lloyd ‘Bunny’ Pommells being taken off by Minister Grange. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ronald Anderson has been promoted to deputy chairman of the board which, sees Emile Spence, Vishu Tolan, Florette Blackwood, Dr Michelle Holt and Marvalyn Campbell also being retained.

The new members on the INSPORTS board are Dr Lee Martin, Daphne Hurdge and Gladstone Wright. The chairmanship of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) remains with attorney George Soutar, with Pommells also remaining deputy chairman.

However, Minister Grange explained that there has been a change in the way that the SDF  board is appointed, with the responsibility now residing solely with the minister. The other members of the SDF board, which has been increased by one to 10 members, are Ian Forbes, David Shirley, Molly Rhone, Dr Donovan Bennett, Christian Stokes, Ann-Marie Heron, Newton Amos and Compton Rodney.
