New town centre for Falmouth - Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that a new town centre will be established for the north coast town of Falmouth.

The Prime Minister, making his contribution to the 2018/2019 Budget Debate, disclosed that the new development will be carried out by the Port Authority of Jamaica on 50 acres of land in close proximity to the existing town.

“Old Falmouth has significant heritage and historical value which, if properly preserved and utilised, could see the significant expansion of the town as a tourism, cultural and lifestyle centre,” he explained.

Last year, a similar town centre relocation was announced for Morant Bay in the eastern Jamaica parish of St. Thomas, and according to the Prime Minister several more will be done across the island.

“The Government has taken a policy decision to re-establish our town centres on a more sustainable basis, with smarter and well laid out facilities and public infrastructure,” he declared.
