No evidence of political motive in Annotto Bay shootings - police

Assistant Commissioner of Police Norman Heywood

The police have said there is nothing to suggest a political motive for shooting incidents in Annotto Bay in the St. Mary South Eastern constituency on Saturday night which left two supporters of the People's National Party (PNP) with bullet wounds.

The two were treated at hospital and released.

Assistant Commissioner Norman Heywood, head of the Area Two Police, said although there is no evidence which suggests that the two incidents were politically motivated, the police are still looking into the matter.

The victiims have already been interviewed by police.

"They were unable to identify their attackers or to suggest that there was any form of political comment made at the time of the shooting or that they were dressed in any particular political party colours," ACP Heywood pointed out.

He said so far, the police have confirmed that the shootings were two separate incidents but will not be labelling the attacks as being motivated by partisan politics "until we have sufficient evidence to suggest that."
