Non-medical staff in public hospital receive training to prepare for Ebola

Non-medical staff  at public hospitals are reportedly getting training following concern that they were not being adequately sensitised as part of  preparations for Ebola.

The Jamaica Workers Union, JWU, which represents patient care assistants, porters and laundry staff  complained that it was not satisfied with the response from the Health Ministry regarding its members.
JWU President, Clifton Brown, says although the union has still not secured a meeting with the Ministry, steps are being taken to include the workers in the Ebola preparations.

In the meantime, Cayman yesterday became the latest country to impose a travel ban in response to the Ebola outbreak. The ban is for those who have visited Ebola-affected countries in the last 21 days. The Government has also decided to put together a $3 million package to fund a specialised isolation unit, protective suits and specialised training for staff. The isolation unit will cost around $1 million dollars.
