North-South Highway to be renamed Edward Seaga HIghway

The North-South Highway, linking Kingston and Ocho Rios, is to be renamed in honour of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement yesterday evening, at a ceremony to re-dedicate the Bustamante Museum in St. Andrew. Mr. Holness said the decision was made by Cabinet on Monday.

He explained the rationale for naming the segment of the highway after Mr. Seaga. This includes the fact that the former Prime Minister was instrumental in the development plans for both Downtown Kingston and Ochi Rios. Since the Highway links both places its only fitting.

Last month, Mr. Holness revealed that a significant honour was coming for Mr. Seaga. At that time he was attending the ceremony to name Petrojam's Corporate Office Building the Edward Seaga Building.
