NWC reports progress in revenue collection drive

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has made headway with its intensified revenue recovery effort to collect billions of  dollars from delinquent customers.

NWC Vice President for Divisional Operations, Michael Dunn, says since the start of  the year, the NWC has strengthened its compliance departments to rigorously go after habitual delinquent customers and illegal users of  water supply.

In a statement yesterday,. Dunn said the NWC has engaged several lawyers and collection agencies that are currently handling a large quota of  these bad debt accounts.

The NWC says in August and September,  the Compliance Departments in St. Catherine and Kingston, prosecuted 19 delinquent persons with a combined debt of  $3.9 million.

In St. Catherine, seven persons opted to settle their arrears, totaling more than $500 thousand  out of  court, while the other twelve persons in Kingston are awaiting court dates.
