Of a new hospital and an old problem

News came last week that the University Hospital of  the West Indies (UHWI)  will be reconstructed - one of several projects included in a Memorandum of Understanding for projects valued at J$60 billion-J$70 billion.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday by the University of the West Indies, Mona, and China Harbour Engineering Company.

The reconstruction of UHWI will result in the number of beds being increased from five hundred to one thousand, and modern facilities being provided.

This was one of the issues discussed on Sunday's edition of That's a Rap, RJR's weekly news review show.

Arising from that announcement, panelists Fae Ellington, Ian Wilkinson, and Arthur Hall, and host Earl Moxam also discussed concerns regarding the continued presence of the informal settlement of Mona Commons, directly across from the main entrance of the hospital.
