One confirmed dengue death in Portmore; two more suspected

Portmore in St. Catherine accounted for one of Jamaica's confirmed dengue related deaths in 2018.
 
This was confirmed by Dr. Francia Prosper Chen, Medical Officer of Health for St. Catherine, who was addressing the Portmore Municipal Corporation's monthly meeting Wednesday.
 
Dr. Prosper Chen said the confirmed dengue related death was that of a child, while there are two other cases in Portmore that are being investigated as possible dengue related deaths.
 
She said for 2018, 187 notifications of dengue were received for St. Catherine.
 
Last month, 81 notifications were received, 43 per cent of which came from Portmore.
 
Dr. Prosper Chen said cases of dengue have been reported in Gregory Park, Christian Pen, Portmore Villas, Watson Grove, Two North, East and West, as well as Seven West.
 
As at January 3, there were eight confirmed dengue related deaths in Jamaica.
