SSP Calvin Allen, head of the JCF's Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch and 'Eric', an eyewitness to the crash

A man who was a passenger in a flatbed tractor trailer died after the vehicle crashed then burst into flames on the Edward Seaga Highway in St. Ann Friday morning.

He is unidentified.

The driver and a woman, who was also travelling in the trailer, were rushed to hospital.

Their condition is not known.

The incident occurred about 8 o'clock in Mammee Bay.

Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, said the driver seemed to have lost control of the trailer, which was transporting pavement bricks.

The driver utilised the escape lane, however, the trailer caught fire and crashed, scattering the bricks.

Efforts are being made to clear the bricks from the road.

An eyewitness to the crash, who gave his name as Eric, said the escape lane was inadequate to accommodate the trailer.

He urged the authorities to lengthen the escape lane to facilitate larger vehicles.
