One killed in Irwin Heights, St. James shooting

Another community in St. James has been rocked by violence despite increased police/military presence in the parish which is grappling with a spate of fatal shootings.
    
Gunmen struck Monday evening in Irwin Heights, Montego Bay, leaving one person dead.
   
The shooting took place at about 6:30 p.m. It is reported that a man identified by his alias Buff Head was attacked while standing outside a shop. A car drove up and a man alighted and opened fire on him. He died on the spot.
   
A motive has not yet been determined for the attack.
   
On Monday, RJR News reported that the number of persons killed in St. James since the start of the year had moved close to 200.
   
According to data compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), between January 1 and September 23, St. James recorded 195 murders.
     
The St. James, Clarendon and St. Catherine North police divisions accounted for the highest number of murders for the period.
   
As at last Friday the country's murder figure stood at 919.
