Online scam alert issued

The Organised Crime Investigative Division (OCID) has issued a warning about an online scam using the website www.shopinja.com

The warning  follows the arrest of two men in the central parish of St Catherine on Friday. According to the OCID persons using the website have been defrauded by  unscrupulous persons advertising the sale of I-phones .

When persons indicate interest in purchasing the phones, they are asked to provide their names, telephone numbers and  Tax Payer Registration Number (TRN). They are then asked to send money through Jamaica National and once this is done the local courier company - Mail Pac, would deliver the phones.

However once the money is sent the victim never hears from the scammers again.

The OCID says several persons have reported what has happened to them . It is believed that many others could have fallen victim to the scam
