Only one case of Zika virus confirmed in Jamaica to date

Since the confirmation of one case of the Zika virus in Jamaica several weeks ago, there has been no further confirmation.

The Jamaican Ministry of Health has announced that it has so far visited almost 3,800 households and taken 32 blood samples since the country recorded its first case of  the Zika virus on January 29.

Fifteen samples were sent to the regional (CARPHA) Laboratory last week. Five of  those samples were positive for the dengue virus.

CARPHA has not reported any other sample positive for the Zika virus.

The Health Ministry, in its statement, said other samples were sent off this week.
