Opposition calling for renewal of Vale Royal talks

Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips is calling for the government to immediately resume the Vale Royal Talks.

This is a forum that was established two decades ago for the government and opposition to hold dialogue on particular issues of national importance.

Dr. Philips says this is necessary so that practical solutions can be found for some of the critical issues facing the country.

He says the meeting is one of the few avenues where discussions between both sides can be held in an open and frank manner.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced in the House of  Representatives late last year that he intended to engage the Parliamentary Opposition in January to restart the Vale Royal Talks. The talks were initiated in 2002 by former Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson.

The aim was to achieve consensus on issues of national concern, between the Government and the Opposition.
