"Shallow and lacking specifics."
That's the assessment of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in response to Water Minister Robert Pickersgill's statement to the nation on Sunday night on the current water shortage.
According to Dr. Horace Chang, Opposition Spokesman on Water, the measures announced by the Minister will have little impact in easing the effects of the severe dry spell. He said Mr. Pickersgill failed to outline definitive plans to address the water shortage.
"The call for conservation is standard; we should have been doing that a long time," Dr. Chang said in response to that section of the Minister's address.
Regarding the Minister's exhortation for Jamaicans to invest more in rainwater harvesting, Dr. Chang said this can only be a supplementary measure. He sharply criticised the Minister for saying nothing "specific on developing the reliable water sources that we have."
