Overseas directors withdraw from Petrojam board

Fayval Williams

Energy Minister Fayval Williams has disclosed that the two overseas directors on the 10-member Petrojam board have withdrawn following concern raised by the Parliamentary Opposition.

Opposition Spokesman on Energy Phillip Paulwell last month raised questions about the composition of the board as well as the possible travel expenses Petrojam could incur by having board members travel from overseas.

The Energy Minister provided an update at a media briefing Tuesday morning, noting that "when you're not familiar with the cut and thrust of Jamaican politics, it's not a very comfortable environment," therefore, the two overseas directors had withdrawn.

"We will continue our search for two directors with specific skills who can become members of the technical committee," she said.

The two new board members should be approved before the end of the year.
