PAHO to examine chemicals used for fogging mosquitoes

Dr. Christopher Tufton

The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) is to examine the effectiveness of chemicals used by the Health Ministry for fogging of  mosquitoes.

Responding to questions in the House of Representatives Tuesday about the chemicals, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton stated that two chemicals are used in the mixture.

He said one of them was recently introduced and PAHO has been asked to "determine the effectiveness of the use of the chemicals with the hope of maybe adjusting if necessary, both in terms of how it is used but also the actual chemical itself."

Dr. Tufton also announced that PAHO will be conducting a wider assessment of Jamaica vector control programme.
