Plans on track for plastics, styrofoam ban

Daryl Vaz
Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, says plans are on track for the implementation of the ban on some plastics and styrofoam on January 1.
He said the advertising campaign as well as formal community meetings will intensify in coming weeks to educate the public on the impending ban.
Mr. Vaz noted that support has been coming from some private sector companies who have committed to distributing environmentally friendly bags.
The proposed ban will be applied to the importation, production and distribution of single use plastic bags, drinking straws and styrofoam.
Mr. Vaz said the Trade Act and the Natural Resources Conservation Act will be used to enforce the measures.
The legislation is being reviewed by the Chief Parliamentary Counsel.
