PM demands apology from JLP leader for statements made in TV interview

Attorney Bert Samuels

The attorney for Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has written to Opposition Leader Andrew Holness demanding an apology for statements made during a television interview on Tuesday.

Simpson Miller who alleges that Holness defamed her and plans to institute legal proceedings if  an apology and compensation are not forthcoming.

"When one looks at the words used by Andrew Holness to describe the Prime Minister   it is for those reasons that he has been written to ......." said attorney Bert Samuels who added that the Prime Minister is requesting more than a written apology from  Holness.

In a letter sent to the Opposition Leader, the Prime Minister also demanded that the statement be approved by her and aired on Television Jamaica as well as published in the Gleaner and the Jamaica Observer newspapers.

The frequency of  the publications must also be approved by the Prime Minister. Samuels says an apology alone would not negate the perceived damage.
