PM Simpson Miller highlights Jamaica's role in UN peace keeping missions

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on Thursday told the UN Security Council, meeting in New York, that Jamaica and other CARICOM countries continue to expand international cooperation to improve their national security infrastructure to deal with transnational organised crime.

Mrs Simpson Miller also gave the commitment of  Jamaica and CARICOM to counter-terrorism initiatives and the non-proliferation of  weapons of mass destruction.

She highlighted Jamaica’s contribution to peacekeeping, contributing police personnel peace keeping activities in various countries over the last two decades.

"Currently, we have just under 20 officers from our police force serving in the United Nations Mission in Haiti, and the African Union-UN Operation in Darfur, Sudan," she revealed.
