PM supports campaign against child labour

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has come out in full support of Jamaica’s participation in an International Labour Organisation (ILO) / International Football Federation (FIFA) ‘Give the Red Card to Child Labour’ campaign.
    

The global initiative of (ILO/FIFA) seeks to build awareness around and mobilise action against child labour.    
    

 In endorsing the campaign, Simpson-Miller noted that children should not be burdened with hazardous work that denies them the opportunity of an education.
She children must enjoy their childhood as they belong in school and not at work. 
    

Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Sport, Natalie Neita Headley, in agreeing to champion the joint initiative, urged the Jamaica Football Federation to incorporate the 'Red Card to Child Labour' Campaign in Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying matches as part of the effort to mobilise public participation.

The ILO’s 2010 Global Report on Child Labour estimates that there are over 215 million child labourers around the world.
