The People's National Party (PNP) says it will not be backing down from its calls for Dr. Andrew Wheatley to be removed from the Cabinet.
The party argues that Prime Minister Andrew Holness' presentation to the Lower House on the issue of Petrojam on Tuesday only confirmed that the former Energy Minister was derelict in his supervision of multiple areas of his portfolio and should be dismissed.
In the statement, PNP President Dr. Peter Phillips reiterated that the remedial fixes announced by the Prime Minister represent an effort to systemise common sense operations.
Dr. Phillips said every minister should be informed in the course of their responsibilities about the agencies for which they are responsible.
He said in light of the many allegations, Dr. Wheatley must be held to account as he failed to exercise control over the affairs of Petrojam and the situation deteriorated into the misuse of taxpayers' money.
