The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ruled that a People's National Party (PNP) Councillor in the St Thomas Parish Council be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
DPP Paula Llewellyn has also ruled that a St. Thomas businessman be charged with him. The ruling was handed down last Thursday but the decision was revealed on Monday.
The Councillor and the businessman were placed under investigation earlier this month following allegations of interference in a case in which a St Thomas pastor has been charged with having sex with a girl under the age of 16.
The arrest of the PNP Councillor by the St Thomas police caused a major uproar at a recent meeting of the Parish Council.
Acting Commander for the parish, Superintendent Charmaine Shand, was chastised by members of the Council and as a result, she left the meeting .
