PNP members criticised for conduct; urged to unite

Dr. Peter Phillips
Dr. Peter Phillips, St. Andrew East Central Member of Parliament, has criticised some members of the hierarchy of the People's National Party (PNP) for their conduct.

Speaking on Sunday at a Region 3 Executive Council meeting, Dr. Phillips said their actions were doing more harm than good.

He chastised members, who while in private meetings, were revealing the party's plans via social media.

"We can't have a situation where in our private councils, while they are going on, people are tweeting and emailing to our enemies, not to the general public, to our opponents politically," Dr. Phillips lamented.

Unity

Meanwhile, Peter Bunting, Member of Parliament for Manchester Central, has called for unity in the PNP as he says the tension surrounding the upcoming internal elections is hurting the party.

At the PNP's annual conference next month, elections will be held for the posts of president and the four vice presidents.

Speaking at a Portland Eastern constituency meeting on Sunday, Mr. Bunting called for all aspirants to work together.

"Never forget that no matter how actively and how vigorously we contest the internal elections...we are all on the same team and we have to perform shoulder to shoulder," he insisted.

Mr. Bunting reiterated that it had not been the right time for him to make a bid for the Presidency of the PNP, as he would have failed. However, he told the constituents in Portland Eastern that his time would come.
