PNP to host national stakeholders meeting on crime, corruption

Dr. Peter Phillips

Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips on Thursday announced that the People's National Party (PNP) will be hosting a national stakeholders meeting to discuss crime and corruption in Jamaica.

The meeting is scheduled for July 30 at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.

Dr. Phillips said the Opposition will act, as the government has not indicated an intention to convene the meeting as promised during the last Vale Royal Talks.

He said it is expected that the leadership of the security forces, members of the academic community, the private sector, churches and others will be in attendance.

"We would be willing to accept the presence of the government if they choose to come, but I'm throwing it out. We cannot abide the inaction of the government any longer," he insisted.

He was speaking with journalists on Thursday following another anti-corruption protest staged by the People's National Party in Montego Bay, St. James.
