Another legal showdown is looming between Jamaica's Police Commissioner and the country's Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
INDECOM lawyers will be going to the Supreme Court on Monday morning to seek an order compelling Police Commissioner Dr. Karl Williams to disclose information regarding the role of the police in the May 2010 security forces operation in West Kingston, during which 70 persons were killed.
Terrence Williams, INDECOM Commissioner, who is probing whether some members of the Force should be charged in relation to certain acts committed during the operation, has applied to the Supreme Court for several declarations. Chief among them, INDECOM wants the Police Commissioner to furnish information on the specific location of police personnel who were deployed on the first two days of the operation.
INDECOM also wants the names of the police personnel.
The investigative body filed the application after the Police High Command refused the request.
Mr. Williams sought to obtain the information during the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry, but this was stoutly resisted by attorneys for the Police Commissioner.
Justice Batts will hear the application.
