Superintendent Glenford Miller, head of the St. Andrew North Police Division, and Fitz Jackson, Opposition Spokesman on National Security
The Police High Command has cancelled vacation leave and recalled police officers on leave as the industrial action by members of the Jamaica Constablary Force intensifies.
More cops reported sick on Wednesday.
Rank and file members of the Force have been staying off the job since Monday in protest the government's six per cent wage offer.
Divisional commanders across Jamaica say they are now stretched and have been scrambling around to ensure that cops remain on the streets.
RJR News spoke with Superintendent Glenford Miller, head of the St. Andrew North Police Division, who said his division is doing the best it can with stretched resources to secure government property and to ensure that prisoners are safe in their custody.
Settle quickly
In the meantime, Fitz Jackson, Opposition Spokesman on National Security, has urged the government to quickly settle the wage dispute with the Police Federation.
He said the current crime problem cannot be allowed to get worse because of the failure of the government to resolve the issues facing "both the police and the country at large."
As such, he pleaded with the government to "conclude the negotiation by putting on the table an alternate offer that is rational, reasonable, practical and something that can lead to a resolution."
