Police probe accidental release of detainee

A high level probe is being carried out into the circumstances which led to what is being described as the accidental release of a detainee from police custody.

It's reported that the detainee, whose name has not been released, was being held on narcotics and gun charges.

He was at the Hunts Bay Police lock-up awaiting a court appearance on the gun charge. However, it has emerged that a sub officer authorised his release on the weekend.

The man was killed on Saturday night by thugs on Barbican Road in St. Andrew. Another man was also killed in the incident.

RJR News understands that two officers who were on duty at the time of  the release are to be questioned.
