A probe is underway into the fatal stabbing of a 19 year-old detainee at the Negril police lock up in Westmoreland on Sunday.
He is Christopher Hinds of Hertfort in the parish.
Mr. Hinds had been charged with murder.
A statement from the police said the incident occurred about 7:15 p.m.
It is reported that Mr. Hinds and another detainee had a dispute in which both parties inflicted wounds to each other with sharp objects.
They were taken to hospital where Mr. Hinds died while undergoing treatment.
The other inmate was treated and taken back into custody.
