Police probing shooting of Alpha Academy student in taxi

A second form student at Alpha Academy was shot in the head this morning while travelling in a taxi near Mark Lane and North Street in Kingston.
    
Detectives are investigating whether members of the police force were involved in the shooting.
    
The student underwent emergency surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital.
    
According to reports, four students, three from Alpha Academy and one from St. George's College, were travelling in the taxi when it was stopped by men travelling in another car.
    
Following a verbal confrontation involving the taxi driver and the men in the car, the taxi operator sped off. He was chased by the men who opened fire, hitting the vehicle. It was then discovered that the student had been shot in the head. 
 
The taxi operator transported her to the hospital. He tried to leave the hospital but was stopped by security guards.     
 
The other students in the taxi were not hurt.
