Police theorise JDF soldier shot after stumbling on a robbery

The community of  Green Bottom near Sandy Bay in Clarendon is now under increased police surveillance following the fatal shooting of  a Jamaica Defence Force soldier by gunmen.

A police source said JDF Corporal Gary Morgan, who succumbed to his injures early yesterday morning, was shot when he stumbled on a robbery. 

The soldier was shot four times----three times in the abdomen as he walked home about 11 o'clock Saturday night.

Residents reported hearing explosions, and when they went to investigate they found the injured soldier.

He was airlifted to a Corporate Area medical facility.

He died on Monday .

Our Clarendon correspondent reports that in recent weeks there has been an upsurge in criminal activity in the area including robberies.

Investigators believe the robberies are being committed by persons from outside the community.
