Police to increase presence near Jamaica College

Assistant Superintendent Coolridge Minto and Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay

The police have outlined plans to increase their presence in the vicinity of Jamaica College, following Wednesday's stabbing death of 14-year-old Nicholas Francis.

Nicholas, who was a third form student, was killed during a robbery, shortly after boarding a bus near his school on Old Hope Road in St. Andrew.

Assistant Superintendent Coolridge Minto, Director of  Safety and Security in Schools,  says a commitment has been given by the relevant police agency to increase personnel deployment "along that corridor".

Hunt intensified

He added that the police have intensified their hunt for Nicholas' killer. They have identified Quacie White as wanted in connection with the case.

"We have information regarding... the community he's from - somewhere in the St. Andrew Central division," he disclosed on RJR's Beyond the Headlines, on Thursday.

The suspect has reportedly fled his community, however, hence a broadening of the search.

Meanwhile, another appeal has been issued for more persons who witnessed Wednesday's attack on the Jamaica College student to contact the police.

Investigators believe there are other individuals with information.

"Given the information we have, that there were many persons on that bus, who saw what happened... the only way we're going to get justice for this young man is for people who saw and heard what happened to come forward, so we are encouraging them to make themselves available," said Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, Communications Officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Witnesses are being asked to make their statements at the Criminal Investigation Branch at Half-Way-Tree Police Station.
