Police to question mastermind behind insurance scam

Fraud Squad investigators are expected to begin questioning a woman said to be mastermind behind a multi-million dollar insurance scam.

The woman along with a man said to be her accomplice, were arrested on Wednesday during pre-dawn operations by detectives assigned to MOCA and the Fraud Squad.

During a raid at the woman's St Andrew home, the police seized a large quantity of  Drivers’ Licence Applications, Driver’s Licences, Motor Vehicle Titles, Stamps, Fitness Certificates as well as cover notes.The cover Nnte booklet was stolen from an insurance company.

At the other location raided, items used in the production of  motor vehicle insurance documents were also discovered. The cops reported that the man set fire to documents in his motor vehicle and then began eating some of  the documents in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The police say they extinguished the fire and recovered some of  the documents.

It's alleged that the woman has been selling Cover Notes for between J$7,000 and 10,000.

MOCA's Director of  Investigations Senior Superintendent Cleon March said the seizure of  the items has resulted in a significant dent in the criminal network involved in the production of  fraudulent motor vehicle insurance documents.
