Preliminary report completed on theft of aviation fuel

Officials of Jamaica Aircraft Refuelling Services (JARS) have received a preliminary report on the probe into the theft of  aviation fuel at Sangster International Airport.

A source told RJR News that the report contains the findings of  a team from BP and the Petroleum Corporation of  Jamaica, the two entities which jointly own the company. It was submitted this week.

According to the source, the probe is now at a delicate stage.

RJR News reported last month that additional security measures were implemented at JARS and Sangster International following the fuel theft. In addition, a security consultant was appointed the acting head of the company.

Two employees of JARS were nabbed during an operation by security personnel at Sangster International Airport. The police are also conducting an investigation.

It is believed that the stolen fuel was converted to diesel and sold to the petroleum retail trade.
