Prices up in February

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says prices rose by zero point 6-percent in February.

The increase means that for the past year, prices have gone up by 8 point 2 percent.

STATIN says the inflation in February was stoked by higher cost alcoholic beverages, more expensive clothes and shoes as well as the ongoing devaluation of the Jamaican dollar.

Since the start of the year, prices have gone up by 1 point 3 percent which is well within the 2 to 3 percent range forecast by the Bank of Jamaica for the January to March quarter.
