Prime suspect in murder of Manchester businessman in custody

Steve Edwards, the prime suspect in the robbery and murder of 76 year old Manchester businessman, Trevor Meikle, is now in custody.

Mr. Edwards, a resident of Islington, St Mary, surrendered to the Major Organized Crime and Anti- Corruption Agency (MOCA) Monday evening in the company of his attorney.

Mr. Edwards is to be questioned and placed on an identification parade this week. His brother is also in custody and is to placed on an ID parade later this week.

Mr. Meikle was shot dead on April 24, when gunmen held up and robbed him and members of his family of cash, jewellery and cell phones at a house in Ingleside, Manchester.

In the meantime, Jodi Ann Stewart, the girlfriend of Mr. Edwards, was offered bail in the sum of $300,000 when she appeared before the Mandeville Criminal Court Tuesday.

Ms. Stewart was charged on Monday with receiving stolen property, after a phone, reportedly stolen from Mr. Meikle, was found in her possession.

She is to return to court on June 16.
